Model overview
The Hyundai Veloster is a coupé manufactured by Hyundai as 2011. Sales began in South Korea in 2011 and North America later that year. It was launched at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011 and fills the space left when Hyundai abandoned the Hyundai Tiburon after the 2008 model year.
The car varies from many rivals with its asymmetrical door configuration, highlighting one large door on the driver side and two smaller doors on the passenger side. This setup is more commonly seen in commercial cars and minivans.
The Veloster comes with two available powertrains to choose from. The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. All trims with the Turbo are powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. With all models and trims, power is sent to the front wheels, and transmission options include a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
Hyundai Veloster known problems
Some of the common problems or complaints owners have about the Hyundai Veloster are:
- Issues related to sunroofs under normal driving conditions affecting the 2012-2016 model years.
- Owners of the first-generation Veloster (2012-2018) complained about the “Blue Link Telematics System”, a system that provides emergency assistance, navigation, and other features. The hardware normally comes standard with the vehicle and owners must renew a subscription for the service.
